One of the most important aspects of fitting clamping rings is to avoid damage to the shaft. In contrast to conventional set collars, clamping rings offer a clear advantage here. In addition, high stability is achieved through the even distribution of the holding forces. Thanks to their quick dismountability, clamping rings can be repositioned at any time. Completely split shaft collars can be quickly disassembled without removing other components.

Holding force - The decisive factor

The holding force of a shaft collar is influenced by various factors, including concentricity, bore sizes and surface finish. The torque with which the clamping screws are tightened and the coefficient of friction between the shaft and the shaft collar bore have a direct influence on the holding force. In addition, the quality of the screws and the permissible tightening torque are also important.

The use of completely split shaft collars in shaft grooves makes it possible to increase the permissible axial forces many times over, as there is a form fit here instead of a force fit. The surface finish of the shaft collar also has an influence on the holding force. The surface roughness and oil or grease adhesion in particular play a role here. A frequently used version is the burnished version, as it improves the torque properties of the screws and reduces the "slip-stick" effect.
